While there are many ways to make a difference in industry and academia, opportunities to apply your skills to the nonprofit realm may be more plentiful than you think. In this panel, we will hear from women who have made careers out of using their scientific expertise in the nonprofit sector. They will discuss the paths they took to get to where they are now, their experiences in their current organizations, and advice for those who are interested in transitioning their own careers into the nonprofit world.

Finding and using your voice: A conversation about narrative writing and storytelling for women in science and medicine.

Suzanne Koven, MD has practiced internal medicine for 30+ years and was named Inaugural Writer in Residence at Massachussetts General Hospital. Her essays, articles, blogs, and reviews have appeared in the Boston Globe, The New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, newyorker.com and other publications. She will lead today's conversation about narrative writing and storytelling for women in science and medicine.

This discussion will focus on changing systems big and small. Mollie Marr, an MD/PhD student at Oregon Health & Science University, will discuss system and policy change related to gender equity, LGBTQ+ rights, and trauma-informed care.
