WISterhood Podcast Launch

Ready to feel more connected and get inspired? Women in Science PDX is launching a new podcast this week!  WISterhood will provide a way for us to engage and create a community of support with WIS.  We're releasing episodes once every two weeks and, along with a few awesome guest speakers, we plan to cover a wide range of topics like Imposter Syndrome and STEM education.  Join us this Friday, November 13th, for our first episode, "Our WIS Journeys, Election Survival Strategies, and the Choo-Choo Train of Knowledge."  Check out the bios for our hosts, Natalie, Sam, and Elizabeth below!

Elizabeth Soto graduated from Humboldt State University in 2015 with a B.S. in Environmental Management and Protection. As a Program Coordinator for Centro Cultural, Elizabeth focuses on logistics and partnerships for the Education Department. As the MESA Regional Coordinator for Washington County, Elizabeth focuses on serving middle and high school students that have been historically underrepresented in STEM. Serving SHPE Oregon as the VP of Community Outreach, Elizabeth hopes to engage the LatinX community through STEM, plan volunteer initiatives, and promote the amazing SHPE Familia. In her spare time, Elizabeth participates in the Outreach and Education Committee for Women in Science Portland, promoting equity in the sciences through the advancement of women and girls in these fields.

Sam Wallace has a B.S. in Bioengineering from Oregon State University and a Masters in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Portland. She currently works as a Product Engineer and Engineering Supervisor for Acumed, an orthopedic implant company. Sam started volunteering with WIS-PDX in February 2019 as a member of the Outreach and Education Committee, she also serves as a STEMpowerment co-coordinator for the committee. When not at work or volunteering Sam is typically obsessing over her dog Ollie, bingeing a show on Netflix or Hulu, or exploring the wonderful Oregon outdoors!

Natalie Wang is currently working on her undergraduate degree in neuroscience at Johns Hopkins University as a Hodson Trust Scholar. Her research interests are in DNA damage and repair, as well as post-operative delirium in elderly patients. Natalie started volunteering with WIS PDX in 2019 as a member of the outreach and education team, and is now also the author of the WISdom blog. When not listening to music or doom-scrolling on Twitter, she can be found checking closets for Narnia.
