Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) are spawning a cascading series of disruptive innovations that hold great promise in many fields, not the least being bioscience.
At the same time, a host of collateral considerations revolve around AI implementation. Nuts and bolts concerns include structuring patents for AI algorithms. And the datasets that algorithms reference may need attention in terms of copyright, privacy, or trade secrets.
New rules and policies regarding AI usage may require continued due diligence. While it may be permissible to use AI to assist in grant preparation, using that same tool in a peer review of that grant may not.
